Can You Go Semi-Vegan in 2012?

Check out this article by the New York Times' food columnist Mark Bittman, who encourages readers to be "semi-vegan" in 2012.

Remember: don't do nothing because you can't do everything. While I enjoy having my diet totally free of animal products, semi-vegan is better than no vegan at all!

Could you be a semi-vegan?

The Vegan Traveler: Starbucks Rocks

People usually ask me if it's hard finding good restaurants as a vegan. Honestly, the only difficulty I have is finding breakfast/brunch and good coffee while on the road. Since the standard breakfast foods are usually pancakes or omelettes, I generally don't go out for brunch. (Except for the Flying Biscuit in Charlotte, which has a REALLY good tofu scramble with home fries. Yum. They also have locations in Atlanta, Gainesville, and Raleigh.)

A lot of calories but totaaallllly worth it.

The one place I'm guaranteed to find something vegan? Starbucks. I've found that even their smallest locations (like their cafes in Target) have soy milk. On my recent flight out of Norfolk, VA, I ordered a caramel brulee latte with soy milk (minus the whipped cream and topping) and asked if they could make their oatmeal with soy milk, which they did without blinking an eye. I was a happy (and full) little vegan as I waited for my plane to board!

Unfortunately, I think their vegan choices are limited to breakfast, since all of their vegetarian lunch options (sandwiches, salads, and wraps) seem to have cheese. Hopefully this will change in the future, but speak up and let them know you want more vegan options!

A Year of Preppy Vegan-ness

Tomorrow will be my one-year anniversary of the best New Year's Resolution I've ever made: becoming a vegan.

It's also possibly the ONLY resolution I've ever stuck with. (Ok, ok. Sometimes I've given in the the temptation of goat cheese or cheesecake. But very rarely and it was totally worth it.)

A year and a half ago, if you'd told me I'd be a vegan I would have laughed in your face. But here I am, 15 lbs lighter than I was in my omnivore days and writing a vegan blog. So there you have it. (As Justin Bieber would say: Never say never.)

This year, my resolutions are to blog 3x a week and start incorporating beauty and wellness products into the blog. (Oh, and to work out non stop until I look like Kate Middleton. But that one might be a bit more unattainable.)

What have you done in the past year that's been good for you? What are your resolutions for 2012?
